Coaching Definitions

EMCC
European Mentoring and Coaching Council

coaching is a professionally guided process that inspires people to reach their full personal and professional potential.

Partnering Relationship: The coach and the client work together as equal partners.

Client as the Expert: The client is the expert on their own life and decisions.

Coach as the Guide: The coach is the expert at guiding the growth process.

ICF
International Coaching Federation

At its heart, coaching is about exploration. It’s a process that stirs up creativity, fuels personal growth, and maximizes both professional and personal potential.

Through powerful questioning and insightful dialogue, coaches support you in discovering your own solutions, whether for life decisions, career shifts, or business challenges. Coaching goes beyond surface-level improvements; it cultivates deep, lasting change.

AC
Association for Coaching

The issues an individual may be experiencing could be feelings of being ‘stuck’, feelings of lack of progress, frustration, or feelings of going back and forth with no apparent resolution. When they come to coaching they are at a point of transition and by engaging a coach they work together to uncover and de-layer in order to identify the essence of the problem and implement change.

Persefone Coaching

Coaching is a practical, forward-focused process that concentrates on tools, skills, and actions.

We refer to past experiences where useful, but the priority is on what you want to change, develop, or achieve going forward.

You stay in control of your decisions

Confidence and self-reliance

A coach helps you recognise what holds you back and replace it with practical strategies. The result is stronger confidence and a greater ability to face challenges on your own.

Team Planning Session

Workable Strategies,

Not Advice

Coaching focuses on tools and frameworks you can reuse, rather than being told what to do.

Team High-Five

Clear, achievable goals

A coach works with you to define clear goals and translate them into concrete actions.

Professional At Desk

Reduced overthinking

Coaching helps interrupt rumination by shifting attention to action and choice

Coaching is not Counselling

Counselling is talk therapy. Coaching works on what you want to change and how you want to move forward.

What To Expect In The Session

1

Being Understood

Don’t worry about being perfectly understood.

Clients often worry that they are not explaining themselves well. Trust yourself. If anything is unclear, I will ask for clarification.

2

Space To Think

I will pause when you finish speaking so you have space to add anything else. You do not need to fill the silence.

That moment often helps you reflect and notice something else you want to say. If not I’ll continue the coaching process.

3

Guidance

My job is to guide the conversation and ask the right questions. Your job is simply to be honest,

You do not need to put pressure on yourself to say the right thing.
